Nudge Community Q&A

TNC: Where did you grow up & where do you live now?

Jessica: I grew up in New York (shoutout to Long Island). I spent 10 years in Manhattan and then returned to the suburbs until our family decided to move to Portugal. Currently living in Lisbon and appreciating a more relaxed lifestyle and all of the wonderful people we’ve met here.

TNC: How have you been spending your days lately?

Jessica: After I get the kids off to school I’ll have my morning coffee and a bite. If I’m feeling up to a workout class I’ll do yoga at Baraza or kickboxing with my trainer. I generally spend my afternoons running errands or catching up with friends for lunch. Now that we’re settled in our apartment I’ve also been doing a lot of decorating and finding the finishing touches to pull our home together.

TNC: What’s the most interesting thing you’ve learned recently?

Jessica: In The Four Agreements Don Miguel Ruiz warns against making assumptions and taking things personally. I didn’t learn that recently per se, but I recently realized that I have a long way to go with that. I often let my thoughts consume me and run with them. Trying to keep all four agreements in mind these days- be impeccable with your word, don’t take anything personally, don’t make assumptions and always do your best.

TNC: If you have a free night in Lisbon where do you go and what do you do?

Jessica: I love a good martini and the ambiance of a steakhouse, so on a free night sans children I can typically be found at Brilhante or Cafe Sao Bento. When we’re all together we like to eat at Zero Zero or Madam Bō as a family.

TNC: Would you be willing to meet-up with other Nudge members if they visit Lisbon?

Jessica: I would be happy to meet up with other Nudge members. I met some really lovely women at the last Nudge event, which was a lot of fun.

TNC: What do you like the most about the idea of being part of a women community?

Jessica: As a mother you realize that the cliche is all too true- it takes a village! But in addition to that, I think for women it’s especially important to share our personal experiences and recommendations with one another. We live in a world still very much dominated by men who miss the nuances of womanhood.

I can think of several times where I left a doctor’s office feeling belittled, dismissed and/or defeated- sometimes in tears of frustration. So many women have unrealistic expectations about our bodies (especially post pregnancy) or what motherhood would look like. The list goes on…

It’s nice to have a community of women that feels like a safe place, to be able to support and uplift one another. I find it empowering to discuss my experiences with other women who can often relate and offer comfort or sage advice.

TNC: What’s the most important thing I should know about you?

Jessica: That I might have a RBF but I have a RBH (real big heart) too!

Joking aside, I suppose the most important thing to know about me is that I’m always open to growth and changing my perspective. I just want to be a better person than I was yesterday.

Thank you Jessica !!
